报告题目:An update on the Square Kilometre Array
报告人:Dr. Jeff Wagg (SKA)
报告摘要:The Square Kilometre Array Phase 1 (SKA1) consists of two radio telescopes to be built in Western Australia and the Karoo of South Africa. The first, SKA1-LOW will consist of half a million dipole antennas sensitive to radiation between 50 and 350 MHz which will be grouped into stations separated by more than 40km. In South Africa, the existing MeerKAT array of dishes will be combined with 133 dishes equipped with single pixel feed receivers operating from 350 MHz to frequencies above 10 GHz. These telescopes will be used to answer fundamental questions about the nature of gravitational waves and the birth of the first stars and galaxies. I will present an update on the design work and upcoming opportunities for scientists from within the Chinese community.
